Our program
The Refugee and Migrant Workers Centre delivers multilingual education through a combination of free translated resources and community education initiatives. This includes the development of multilingual materials, as well as the delivery of information sessions and workshops in multiple languages across New South Wales.
Our multilingual education program focuses on work health and safety, workplace rights, and access to support services for migrant workers. By providing information in culturally appropriate and accessible ways, we support communities to better understand their rights and stay safe at work.

Practical, accessible, culturally safe.
Our resources provide practical and accessible information about staying safe at work, responding to unsafe working conditions, understanding workplace rights, and recognising workplace exploitation. We develop materials in languages other than English to help ensure workers can access important information in ways that are culturally safe, accessible, and easy to understand.

Research
We work alongside communities, unions, legal services, researchers, and decision-makers to strengthen workplace protections and address the systemic issues affecting migrant workers across Australia. Our advocacy and research are informed by the lived experiences of migrant workers and grounded in community knowledge and evidence.
The following reports and campaigns highlight key advocacy wins achieved by migrant communities and Unions NSW, including the advocacy that led to the creation of this Centre:
Research led by Unions NSW was presented to and cited in the Fair Work Commission decision to establish a minimum wage guarantee for piece rate workers in the horticulture industry.
Successfully advocated for the creation of a Workplace Justice Visa, providing migrant workers with greater visa certainty while pursuing claims related to exploitation and workplace injustice.
Secured the introduction of provisions making it unlawful to advertise jobs below the minimum wage.
Advanced reforms to improve portability within the sponsorship visa framework, enabling migrant workers to change employers without risking their visa status.
Continued advocacy, in partnership with migrant communities, the union movement and civil society groups, to strengthen enforcement, improve access to justice, and address structural barriers facing migrant workers across Australia.
