The situation
Karen worked in the meat industry under the PALM scheme. Before her contract ended, her employer demanded evidence of a return flight home and threatened to deduct up to $1,800 from her wages to cover the cost if she did not provide one.

RMWC contacted the employer and explained that the proposed deduction was likely unlawful and inconsistent with protections under the Fair Work Act.
The result
The employer confirmed that no deduction would be made from Karen's wages.
